Description
Height 90cm/3ft, spread 30-37cm (12-15in). The hardiest of all species and available in numerous varieties.
Cultivation
Plant in March or April taking care to disturb the fragile roots as little as possible. Plant in groups 10-15cm/4-6in deep in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny, sheltered spot. Plants may require some support.
Propagation
Sow seeds in March and grow on in pots ready for planting out the following spring. Alstroemerias are challenging to grow since seeds need a warm, then cold period to germinate. Sow 6mm/1/4in deep,and maintain 70-75F (20-25C) for 3 weeks, then place in a refrigerator at 5C (40F) for 3 weeks. After this place in warmth 70F (20C). Germination should take up to 30 days. Clumps can be lifted in March or April and replanted immediately or potted and grown on as above. New clumps may take a year or two to flower.
