Thrips

Tiny winged insects that damage plants by sucking sap, which results in bleaching of a small area around the puncture marks. Heavy infestations will weaken a plant. Viral infections can also result.

Peas are among plants often attacked. The pods show silvery marks and become stunted. Gladioli, roses and other flowers can be affected – the petals show brown speckles and become distorted. Treat by spraying with either a contact or a systemic pesticide.
