Common pest of apples that also infests pears and plums. The female moth lays her eggs in the flowers during mid-spring. The larvae on hatching eat their way into the small fruitlets, leaving brown excrement on the outside of their exit tunnels. Infected fruit falls before developing fully. The moth overwinters as a

dormant larva, which pupates in early spring and the flying adult emerges during April. Immediately following blossom fall, spray with bifenthrin. Alternatively, pheromone traps may be set on the trees; these attract the male moths which are then trapped on a sticky surface.
